Predicterra at FutuRed's Smart Grids Congress 2026
Our paper on Earth dynamics for resilient power grids, selected for the 5th edition. Madrid, November 3 and 4
Predicterra will take part in the 5th Smart Grids Congress organised by FutuRed, the Spanish technology platform for electricity networks, on November 3 and 4 at the School of Industrial Engineering of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (ETSII-UPM).
Our paper, From Anticipation to Operation: Representing Earth Dynamics for Resilient Power Grids(De anticipar a operar: representación de la dinámica terrestre para redes eléctricas resilientes), has been selected by the scientific committee, which rated it as very high quality and fully aligned with the themes of the Congress. We will present it in the exhibition area throughout both days.
It is also a return. In 2023, the technology behind Predicterra was presented at FutuRed's Smart Grids Congress in a technical paper co-published with i-DE (Iberdrola). Three years later, we come back with a broader question and a model already running in operation.
What the paper is about
Power grids do not fail in isolation. They fail where the atmosphere, the land and the network meet: wind over an exposed ridge, saturated soil under a pole foundation, dry vegetation along a line corridor, a river rising towards a substation.
Most grid risk tools treat those conditions as external inputs, a weather layer laid on top of an asset map. Our paper argues for the opposite: representing Earth dynamics (atmosphere, terrain, soil, water and vegetation, and how they evolve over time) as a continuous model coupled to the network itself, so that every asset is understood in the physical context that actually determines whether it fails.
The paper covers how that representation is built and how it is used across horizons:
- Anticipate: asset-level risk from hours to 14 days ahead, combining forecasts with the physical state of the terrain and the network.
- Operate: turning that risk into field decisions, positioning crews and resources where failures are most likely before the event arrives.
- Plan: extending the same representation to climate scenarios, so that reinforcement and investment decisions are tested against the conditions the grid will face over its lifetime.
The approach is grounded in operational experience. It is the same foundation behind Predicterra's deployment at UFD (Naturgy), recently published by E.DSO as an official success case, where 14-day asset-level forecasts support the pre-positioning of field resources ahead of severe weather.
Where to find us
Networking afternoon, November 3, from 16:00. The Congress opens with an afternoon dedicated to bringing together academia and startups, with an exhibition area in the hall of La Sala de la Máquina. Our poster will be there from the start, and so will we.
Congress day, November 4. The poster stays up throughout the Congress, alongside three sessions of technical papers and two expert panels on regulation, standardisation, investment and the internationalisation of grid innovation.
Venue: ETSII-UPM, Calle de José Gutiérrez Abascal 2, Madrid
If you work on grid resilience, asset management or climate adaptation, come and talk to us at the poster. We are happy to walk through the model, the data behind it and what it looks like in a real operation.

Two weeks, two stages
The Congress is the first of two appointments this November. A week later, from November 10 to 12, Predicterra will be at Enlit Europe 2026 in Vienna, in the Spain Pavilion, where we will launch our foundation model for grid incidents, the physical energy ontology and parametric fragility models for energy assets.
Predicterra builds the onto-physical digital twin of the energy system. Physics tells you how your assets behave. Ontology tells you how everything connects.
